consecutive year, the ATP Challenger (Category 75) features both singles and doubles matches, offering a dynamic and diverse atmosphere for players and fans alike.
“This year’s edition of the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger is set to deliver a ton of exciting matches and unforgettable moments,” said Ryan Borczon, Director of the Professional events at Tennis Canada. “With so many Top 150 players in the draw, along with Canadian players in the mix, this is the perfect
way to kick off the 2024 Canadian Challenger season.”
Leading the tournament as the top seed is Australian Rinky Hijikata, ranked 98th in the world. He’s joined by compatriots Max Purcell, the No. 2 seed, and fifth-seeded Adam Walton. Rounding out the top five seeds are Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan (No. 3) and Americans J.J. Wolf (No. 4). All ranked inside the Top 150, 25-year-old Walton has enjoyed the best season of the group, winning ATP Challenger crowns in Taipei, Tawain, and Burnie, Australia.
Canada’s own Alexis Galarneau, ranked 165th in the world, will attend the event for a third year in a row following his participation at the prestigious Wimbledon Championships in London, United Kingdom. The 25-year-old Quebecer will spearhead the Canadian contingent, joined by compatriot and wild card Liam Draxl, world No. 253. Galarneau and Draxl won their first Challenger tournaments last year, at the Granby National Bank Championships and the Calgary National Bank Challenger, respectively, and are poised to showcase their skills on home soil, much to the delight of local fans.
As players gear up for competition in Manitoba’s capital, the tournament committee is finalizing preparations at the state-of-the-art facility in West St. Paul. Featuring five courts, stadium seating on Centre Court, and a luxurious VIP section, the venue is cementing its position as the premier hub for
